The Presidential Faculty Award was established in 2013 by President Christina H. Paxon. It's designed to recognize Brown's distinguished faculty who are conducting especially important and innovative scholarship. Recipients of the award are invited to give the Presidential Faculty Award lecture to allow the Brown community to learn about thw work of their colleagues from other disciplines. The lectures are presented twice a year and are open to the public. Prof. Bashir's lecture is titled "Dwelling in a World of Poetry." Prof. Bashir's work focuses on Islamic Studies with interest in the intellectual and social histories of the societies of Iran and Central and South Asia circa fourteenth century CE to the present. He is the Aga Khan Professor of Islamic Humanities and the Director of the Center for Middle East Studies. The lecture will take place at 4:30pm, in the John Carter Brown Library.
